Learn How to Sell Online - Webdesign and Internet Marketing

What Products to Sell Online?

Basically there exist two diferent kinds of products to sell online. They are:

  • digital goods (e-goods)

  • hard goods

In the following you will learn about the different advantages of each kind of product and ultimatly will be able to make a well informed decission about what products you want to sell online.

Let's start with the best products to sell online...

The Digital Goods

E-goods, which are often referred to as "digital goods" are electronic products that cannot be physically touched. E-Goods are by fare the most convenient products to sell online because you can deliver them at no costs to your customers via e-mail or provide a download from a Web page.

E-goods are for example...

  • e-books

  • videos

  • software

  • photos

  • etc., etc.

But there's even more to it...

It doesn't cost you a penny to create and sell multiple copies of your e-goods! What does that mean? Click here to find out and learn everything about the many advantages of digital goods.

Hard Goods

Hard goods are the second kind of products to sell online.

Hard goods are basically every products which are not digital goods :-)

Hard goods can be...

  • books

  • clothing

  • beauty products

  • computer hardware

  • cellphones

  • digital cameras

Basically hard goods are everything you can physically touch.

What Products to Sell Online
are Best for You?

If you have no special preferences i. e., if you are just looking for any products to sell online in order to make money then I defenitly recommand digital goods. Why? Read here about the advantages of e-goods over hard goods.

But maybe you have preferences and you may want to sell hard goods. Perhaps because you have already a real offline store and now want to conquer the internet market too.

In that case I am telling you...

Go for it.

Allthough digital goods are generally the best products to sell online, every product - also hard goods - can be very successfully sold provided there exists a niche for it!

And that brings me to the next point...

Find a Profitable Niche for Your
Products to Sell Online

It is unendingly more important to find a targeted market niche for your product than the decision between hard goods or e-goods.

Why?

Because, if you don't find a profitable niche for your products, you can be certain that wou won't sell anything.

But let me explain...

First the obvious: If you are selling something no one is looking for, you won't sell anything. Therefore you have to research what people are looking for online. You have to find out, what people are willing to buy online. What people want to buy online.

That's the first step, but not the last.

Next you have to check out your competition. If you have a great product everyone wants to buy, but also vastly superior competition you also won't sell anything.

Therefore the key to success...

Find a niche in the market for a product where there is a sufficient number of interested customers, but almost no competition. The demand for your product has to be big enough so that you can make a substantial income.

For example: If you sell an e-book for 15 USD you need at least 200 Buyers per month in order to make 3000 USD a month.

If you sell a real book (made of paper) you need a greater number of buyers because you have more expences (like shipping, inventory) for hard goods than for digital goods like e-books.

How to Define the Right Niche for Your Products to Sell Online

Your niche should be as big as possible as long as the competition is small. But remember: Better a little less demand than a too strong competition.

Since market research is such an important and fundamental task for the successful development of your online business you should do it as good as possible, and better.

Market research is a complicated task. First you have to find out, what phrases people are looking for and how much they search for such phrases. This phrases are called keywords.

Then you have to find out how much competition exists for a certain phrase. Here you have to keep in mind that not everyone who uses you keyword is actually a serious competition. Why?

Because not many people offer such hiqu quality content as you will do. (Attention here: DO use only high quality content, which adresses the readers interest. Do not fool the engines and readers with trash text. On the long run you loose with such an attitude.)

If you deliver high quality content you have probably outrun 90% of your possible competition.

Now you know: Market research is complicated and even more time consuming.

But I have good news for you...

I know a tool which does most of the tedious work for you. A tool which gathers all the data for you. You only have to evaluate that data and choose a niche that fits you ideas and is profitable.

That tool is called SBI. I use it for this website and for many others too. It's market research tool profoundly helped me, develop a successful web business.

Who is Competition and Who isn't?

Keep in mind that competition does not necessarily mean other people who sell the same product as you. Other people are only a competition, if they sell the same product as you to the same market as you. That's competition. Why is this aspect so important?

Because if offers you much more possibilities!

Now you don't have to necessarily find a completly unique product. No! Now you just have to find your unique spin of selling that product! That's much easier.

A small example: The products to sell online are gardening tools and supplies. Now you can match yourself with all the other online shops or you can develop your own unique spin. That could be...

  • target hobby gardeners: Give them general tips, tell them about high quality organic seeds for vegtables they can grow for their family, gardening tools etc.

  • target professional garden designer: Give them tipps on how to arrange trees, bushes and flowers in beautiful ways, tell them about special flowers and the brilliant match of their colors, tell them about humus soil, fertilzer etc.

You have to give your customers the strong feeling that you are one of them. If you are a hobby gardener tell them about the problems you faced and the solutions you found. If you target professional garden designer tell them about your experience in that field!

Your customers have to accept you as an authority in your field. If you deliver your status as an expert, people start to trust you and they are willing to buy the products you suggest. Click here to find out more about this important strategy of preselling.
